A leaky fire hydrant in Bed Stuy, Brooklyn is currently surrounded by goldfish. Neighborhood residents, after noticing the leak and the water pit it created, bought about 100 fish and colorful rocks and created an outdoor fish pond. However, not everyone supports the idea. “At best these fish might be swept up in a rain storm down a storm drain,” one poster wrote. “At worst they’ll suffocate in their own waste.” Other residents support expanding and improving Gavs Fish Pond instead, and some organizers are planning to install lights and plants in the pit. A GoFundMe has been started to create a better habitat for the New York City fish. (Brooklyn Paper)
