Group trips are often filled with horror stories, like mismatched budgets, drunken Ubers, and terrible planning. Is it time to get rid of the friend group vacation? One woman named Rosemary said a traveler changed the entire itinerary against the wishes of the group. Another named Savannah was told she was “poor” by her friend when she couldn’t afford an overnight train with a bed. “It’s this really intense time-bound experience outside of someone’s regular familiar environment,” relationship expert Layne Baker said of group trips. “Everyone handles that experience really differently.” To avoid the friendship-straining logistics of a group trip, it might be better to simply take a solo vacation..and let your friends know about it when you get back.
