Alcohol and drug use has been connected to over 3 million deaths worldwide. According to a recent report from the World Health Organization, alcohol consumption has contributed to 2.6 million deaths while psychoactive drugs are responsible for another 0.6 million deaths. Altogether, those numbers total 4.7% of deaths worldwide. There has been a reduction in alcohol-related deaths since 2010, but the report notes that “the overall number of deaths due to alcohol consumption remains unacceptably high.” (Fortune)
