A University of Texas at Dallas study found that baby babble helps little ones learn. The sounds infants make when they’re under a year old help create a foundation for speech development. These noises, which are usually squeals, growls, or vowel sounds, are the stepping stones for everyday speech. Babies may practice making one sound for a while, then switch to another. “We observed in these studies that infant vocalizations are not produced randomly; they form a pattern,” Dr. Pumpki Lei Su said. “Children explore their vocal capabilities with or without language input from an adult.” (Study Finds)
