The Harvard linguistics graduate says the phenomenon is called “content creep.” Formerly clinical terms like “gaslight”, “fixate”, “anxiety”, and “depression” are finding themselves in everyday speech. “Social media is also blurring the line between medical definitions and common definitions,” the creator wrote in the video’s caption. “It’s like the words “nervous” or “sad” don’t even exist anymore,” one person commented.
