A University of Southern California study found that falling for financial scams could be an early warning sign for Alzheimer’s. As the brain changes, the entorhinal cortex becomes thinner. This thinning could make a person more susceptible to scams. The tendency to fall for trickery can show up far before any other dementia symptoms emerge. “Assessing financial vulnerability in older adults could help identify those who are in the early stages of mild cognitive impairment or dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease,” Duke Han of USC Dornsife said.
