Pen-chan, a penguin born in captivity, survived in the ocean for two weeks despite never hunting for herself before. Pen-chan went missing on August 25th on Himaka Island, and was found 30 miles away in good condition. “I thought she would look exhausted, but she was swimming as usual,” handler Ryosuke Imai said. “I’m surprised at the penguin’s physical ability and adaptability.” While the penguin lost some weight, it seems she was able to hunt crabs and fish during her two-week escapade.
