Marriages in West Virginia last an average of 22.6 years, making it the top state for marriage longevity. Wisconsin comes in close second at 22.5 years, followed by Vermont at 22.4 years. “In states like West Virginia, community support and traditional values play a huge role in keeping marriages intact,” Deepa Tailor of Divorce Lawyers said. On the other hand, Alaska ranks last with the average marriage lasting 16.8 years.
