A Brazilian couple was not allowed to name their son after Egyptian pharaoh Piyé due to concerns that he would be teased. The Minas Gerais Court of Justice prevented parents from registering the name because in Portuguese, the pronunciation is similar to a ballet dance step. Parents Danillo Primola and Catarina Primola wanted to name their son after Piyé to honor their African ancestry. “We have the right to educate our children with this strength, this culture and in a way that they have representation in their name,” Danillo said. A judge on Friday has since walked back the decision, allowing the baby’s name to be registered. (dailymail.co.uk)
