A little over a year after the tragic event, the US Coast Guard began its hearing on the Titan submersible disaster on Monday. 10 former OceanGate employees including former engineering director Tony Nissen and former contractor Tym Catterson were scheduled to testify. One of the last messages received from the doomed vessel’s crew was: “all good here.” After this message, the Polar Prince sent repeated questions, which went unanswered. The final message sent from the Titan said it had dropped two of its weights. A little over nine minutes into the hearing, it was discovered that the vessel was struck by lightning in 2018. Nissen testified that he told Stockton Rush that the hull had likely been compromised, to which Rush replied: “It’ll be okay.” (dailymail.co.uk)
