How historically accurate is the much-anticipated movie Gladiator II? Historians note that a gladiator in 80 BC would not have mounted a rhinoceros and used the animal to charge at other human beings. However, there is a record of a rhino being in the Colosseum, but it was pitted against other animals, like bulls, lions, and bears…not humans. There were, however, staged sea battles.
