Massachusetts fans of two-year-old beaver Nibi are torn over the future of the beloved animal. Nibi was rescued and has been living at Newhouse Wildlife Rescue, and is scheduled to be released. However, Nibi has not been able to form bonds with other beavers, which is essential to their survival. “It’s very difficult to consider releasing her when she only seems to like people and seems to have no interest in being wild or bonding with any of her own species,” Jane Newhouse, the rescue group’s founder, said. Newhouse is seeking a permit that would allow Nibi to become an educational beaver instead. An online petition to keep Nibi at the rescue center currently has over 25,000 signatures. (newser)
