A World Conker Champion is being accused of using a steel chestnut to compete. Conking is a British sport where competitors use chestnuts on leather strings to attempt to break their opponents’ chestnuts. However, this year’s men’s champion David Jakins, otherwise known as King Conker, has been accused of unfairly using a steel chestnut. “Allegations of foul play have been received that somehow King Conker swapped his real conker for the metal one later found in his pocket,” Spokesman St. John Burkett said. “There are also suggestions that King Conker had marked the strings of harder nuts.” Jakins said he has the steel chestnut as a novelty item, and denies the allegations.
