Fans of plant-based burgers might need to eat more to build muscle: A University of Arkansas study found that traditional beef burgers stimulate muscle growth more effectively than soy alternatives. Those who eat plant-based burgers need to eat twice as much to achieve the same muscle-building effect, researchers found. The study involved 24 adults between the ages of 18 and 40 split into three groups: One group ate a beef burger; another ate one Impossible Burger; and the third group ate two Impossible Burgers. “While both beef and soy are considered ‘complete’ proteins, the amino acids in beef are simply more available for the muscle to use efficiently,” Robert Wolfe, Ph.D, said.
