Human rights lawyer Clive Stafford Smith told a shocking tale of a client who was executed: He was denied a cigarette as a last meal because it was “unhealthy.” Client and convicted murderer Nicholas Lee Ingram was executed in 1995 by electric chair. He did manage to have his last smoke because Smith pointed out the hypocrisy to the press. “I went out and told the media, and they were humiliated by that, so they gave him a last cigarette,” Smith recounted.
