Tens of thousands of students in China rented bikes and rode 30 miles for a chance to eat Kaifeng’s famous dumplings. Some estimates say between 100,000 and 200,000 people pedaled to eat soup dumplings called guan tang bao on Friday. Police were summoned to disperse the crowds, with some authorities advising students to leave. Temporary restrictions were placed on roads and bike paths between Zhengzhou and Kaifeng. While Kaifeng originally embraced the trend when it started back in June, residents are beginning to complain about the amount of trash left behind by hungry students. However, not everyone has regrets. “Last night’s ‘Night Riding Army’ was spectacular!” one participant exclaimed online. (newser)
