70% of children with rich parents maintain their social position into adulthood, a recent study from Britain found. 90% of children of doctors, lawyers, and executives also avoid working working-class jobs when they grow up. Researchers analyzed 111,000 employed individuals and their survey responses, and compared their jobs to their parents’ professions. The study found that even if children had a lower-paying job than their parents, they maintained a high social position. Women in particular tended to choose more creative or educational roles. “The children of the most advantaged families face almost no risk of significant downward mobility – with the most likely outcome being a smooth path into a highly prestigious or highly paid job,” Dr. Robert dr Vries of the University of Kent said.
