86% of parents say they have a different support system, or “village”, to help raise their kids. A survey of 2,000 parents found that respondents spent more time with grandparents, aunts, and uncles as kids. However, those same parents say their own children spend more time with the parents’ friends than their aunts or uncles. 24% of those surveyed say their inner circle includes friends they made after having children. 32% believe their family members are too busy to help them. “Raising children today is like steering a ship through a storm…without a compass to guide your ship—or a strong support system to help you parent—it’s easy to lose your way,” Dr. Lauren Loquasto of The Goddard School said. “I encourage all parents to take full advantage of their entire network, including their school and childcare provider, to help them.” (swnsdigital)
