A 300-carat necklace from the 18th century, believed to contain diamonds linked to the scandal surrounding Marie Antoinette, sold for close to $5 million at an auction in Geneva. The necklace, comprising nearly 500 diamonds arranged in three rows, is thought to have been created for royalty or a high-ranking aristocrat, based on its style, quality, and age. It was worn at two British coronations and is considered a remarkable example of Georgian-era luxury and historical significance. “It stands head and shoulders above all other documented Royal and Imperial jewels of the period,” Andres White Correal, head of royal and noble jewels at Sotheby’s, said in a statement.
