A rare, long fish that is seen as a bad omen has washed up on a California beach…for the second time in three months. A 10-foot-long oarfish, which is rumored to be a sign of upcoming earthquakes, was found on Grandview Beach last week. Another oarfish was found in August just 20 miles south. Researchers are investigating why these deep-sea fish were in shallow waters. “It may have to do with changes in ocean conditions and increased numbers of oarfish off our coast,” Ben Frable of the Scripps Oceanography Marine Vertebrate Collection said. “Sometimes it may be linked to broader shifts such as the El Niño and La Niña cycle but this is not always the case.” (NY Post)
