Study: The Egg Came Before The Chicken

A study from the University of Geneva may have helped solved the age-old question: Which came first—the chicken or the egg? A Swiss team discovered that a single-celled organism called Chromosphaera perkinsii contains the genetic machinery for creating eggs a billion years before animals existed. “It’s fascinating, a species discovered very recently allows us to go back in time more than a billion years,” study first author Marine Olivetta said.
