A recent study from Stanford University found that spelling out words in text messages could help you make a good first impression. Researchers found that abbreviations like “IDK” for “I don’t know” or “GOAT” for “greatest of all time” make the texter seem insincere. The study, which involved 5,300 participants, found that those who used abbreviations more often were less likely to get a response back. “We thought texters might like abbreviations…so we were surprised that abbreviations elicited negative perceptions about people who use them,” lead study author David Fang said.
