A brother posted to AITA on Reddit to ask if he was wrong for not buying his sister a capybara for her birthday. “At first, I thought she was joking. But no, she had done ‘research’ (aka, Googled it for an hour) and insisted she could totally take care of one,” the 24-year-old wrote. He said no because they don’t have a place for a semi-aquatic animal to live. “I feel like she’s only into it because it’s trendy, and the second TikTok moves on, she’ll lose interest,” the poster explained. However, when the 16-year-old found out that she would not be receiving the pet, she became upset. Many commenters on the post agreed with the brother. “Capybaras are not good pets and they need other capybaras around to thrive. Also, they do best in wet, hot places like swamps,” one commenter wrote. (People)
