A recent study found that those who perceive themselves as powerful are more likely to think about cheating and look for other partners. Reichman University and University of Rochester researchers asked participants to describe moments of power, fantasies, and the perceived “mate value” of their partners. Individuals who thought of themselves as more powerful were more interested in cheating. “In a romantic relationship, these power dynamics might lead the more powerful partner to think they bring more to the table than their less powerful partner,” lead author Gurit Birnbaum said.
