Man Who Doesn’t Speak Spanish Wins Scrabble Championship

Nigel Richards, who does not speak Spanish, recently won the 2024 Spanish-Language Scrabble World Championship. In 2015, Richards performed a similar feat when he won the French-Language Championship, despite not knowing French. Richards has even been dubbed “the Tiger Woods of Scrabble.” The champion, who won the title in Granada, Spain, says he simply memorizes words without learning their meaning. According to John Baird, who has seen him play, Richards “can look at a page and retain the whole thing, it sticks like a photograph.” (Oddity Central)
