Merriam-Webster has announced its word of the year: Polarization. In 2024, Americans weren’t just divided by the 2024 election, but also by celebrity feuds like the Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef. “Search volume on Merriam-Webster.com throughout the year reflected the desire of Americans to better understand the complex state of affairs in our country and around the world,” the dictionary said in a statement. Other contenders for word of the year included: “fortnight”; “totality”; “demure”; and “pander.” (newser)
