Kirstin Blaise Lobato was awarded $34 million dollars after serving 16 years in prison for a murder she did not commit. The Las Vegas jury also ordered detectives on the case to pay $10,000 each for fabricating evidence. “I have no idea what the rest of my life is going to look like,” Lobato said. She was convicted of murdering Duran Bailey in 2001 when she was just 18. Even though Lobato’s phone records and witness statements put her 170 miles away from the crime, that evidence was ultimately disregarded. Attorney Elizabeth Wang said Lobato “was a vulnerable teenager, and the criminal justice system failed her.” (newser)
