The child didn’t know he wasn’t going to be able to keep the system. After Hugo, the team’s mascot, gave the boy the console while dressed as Santa Claus, the machine was taken away from him shortly after, and he was given a jersey instead. “Everyone thought he was keeping it – cheerleaders, dancers, everyone,” the boy’s uncle, Alexei Phillips said. “When they took it away, people assumed it was a joke.” After the incident sparked outrage on social media, the basketball team apologized for its “Grinch-like” behavior.
