Lake Superior State University has dropped its annual list of words we should leave in the past. For almost 50 years, the Banished Words List calls out the most overused and annoying terms. “Cringe” was number one on the list, followed by: “game changer”; “era”; “dropped”; and “IYKYK.” “Old habits can be hard to break,” Dr. David Travis said. “We’re happy to serve as a resource for the court of public opinion on what should continue to be part of the English language and what needs to be put to rest.” The list is based on submissions sent from around the world.
