Belgium’s food safety agency has warned residents against eating Christmas trees. This comes after the city of Ghent published a statement recommending using dried needles to “make delicious spruce needle butter.” However, Belgium’s Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain issued a statement reminding citizens that trees are often treated with pesticides and other chemicals. The suggestion on Ghent’s page now comes with a warning: “not all Christmas trees are edible.” (UPI)
