A bear who takes summer swims in a California family’s pool recently came back for a winter romp. Leslie Schmid caught footage of the bruin taking a dip in the backyard of her Foresthill home at 2 a.m. She believes it’s the same bear who came by in July of 2024. Peter Tira of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife reminds residents that California bears do not hibernate and are active year-round. “It’s a very slippery slope because once they learn to associate people and neighborhoods with food, they get bolder and bolder to get that food,” Tira said.
