A California study of 10,000 kids found that pre-teens are active on platforms they’re “too young” to use. 64% of pre-teens have at least one social media account, even though the age limit is usually 13 on these platforms. TikTok and Youtube reign supreme among users between 11 and 15 years old. There’s also a gender divide: Female adolescents tend to use TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, and Pinterest, while boys gravitated toward YouTube and Reddit. 25% of kids polled said they use these apps to forget their problems. “Our study revealed a quarter of children reported elements of addiction while using social media, with some as young as eleven years old,” pediatrician Dr. Jason Nagata said.
