German Court Says Dubai Chocolate Must Come From Dubai

Dubai chocolate must come from Dubai, a German court in Cologne ruled. This means the supermarket Aldi can no longer sell “Alyan Dubai Handmade Chocolate” since it’s actually made in Turkey. The court concluded that the product name could misguide consumers into thinking the product is produced in Dubai. However, some argue that “Dubai chocolate” refers to the type of chocolate with a pistachio and “kadayif” filling, and not the location. Aldi could appeal this decision. (DW)
