The U.S. Food and Drug Administration banned Red No. 3 dye in food and beverage products. The amendment in color additive regulations comes after the dye was linked to cancer in rats. Red No. 3 is commonly used in candy, cakes, cookies, icings, and some medications. Food manufacturers will have until 2027 to change their products. “Food safety is the number one priority for U.S. confectionery companies, and we will continue to follow and comply with FDA’s guidance and safety standards,” the National Confectioners Association said in a statement.
