Researchers at Tilburg University discovered Spotify’s playlists have more influence than star power. Being featured on the Search Page increased playlist followers by .95%, while adding tracks from artists only increased followers by .45%. For example, a popular playlist like “Reggaeton Classic” with 1.9 million followers can bring in over 18,000 new followers in a single day if it is featured. “This demonstrates Spotify’s ability to steer user engagement and listening behavior through its platform design,” study co-author Max Pachali said. “In comparison, we find that users are about half as sensitive to the addition of popular label artists.” (Study Finds)
