Young women are almost twice as likely to be diagnosed with cancer as young men, an American Cancer Society report says. Breast and thyroid cancer in particular are prevalent in women under 50. For the first time, a woman under 65 is more likely to develop cancer than a man. There are still racial disparities: While Black women have a 4% lower chance of developing breast cancer than a white woman, they are 41% more likely to die from the disease. To help reduce cancer risk, experts recommend eating a low-fat diet that emphasizes plants; maintaining a healthy weight; exercising 150 minutes every week; sleeping seven to nine hours every night; and avoiding alcohol and tobacco.
