A Pennsylvania man was attacked by a bear as he walked along a trail on January 19th. While Andrew Neirer was bitten and scratched, a neighbor was able to see what was taking place and shot the bear. When its remains were tested, it was revealed that the bear had rabies. Neirer is receiving medical treatment and is expected to make a full recovery. “While rabies in bears is rare and a case emerging in a given area usually is isolated, rabies poses a risk to all mammals,” the game commission said in a statement. The CDC advises anyone who may have been exposed to rabies to contact their healthcare provider or state or local health department immediately. (newser)
