Google has confirmed that it will change the “Gulf of Mexico” to the “Gulf of America” in Maps in the United States. However, if you travel outside of the United States, you’ll still see this body of water referred to as the “Gulf of Mexico.” “We have a longstanding practice of applying name changes when they have been updated in official government,” the company said in an X post. “When official names vary between countries, Maps users see their official local name.” President Trump recently renamed the gulf with an executive order. Mount Denali’s name has also been changed back to Mount McKinley, which will also be reflected in the app. (The Guardian)
