A new study from the University of South Carolina found that flossing was associated with a 22% lower risk of clot-caused stroke, and 44% lower risk of stroke caused by blood clots moving from the heart. “Oral health behaviors are linked to inflammation and artery hardening,” Dr. Souvik Sen said. “Flossing may reduce stroke risk by lowering oral infections and inflammation.” More than 6,200 participants reported how often they flossed over the course of 25 years. Flossing was also linked with a lower risk of cavities and gum disease. (UPI)
