Researchers at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine decided to examine juice-based diets’ effect on the gut. While 26% of consumers have tried a juice cleanse for health reasons, it appears these diets could have a dark side. Juice-based diets were associated with inflammation, and just three days of juicing could increase harmful bacteria in your mouth. “Consuming large amounts of juice with little fiber may lead to microbiome imbalances,” Dr. Melinda Ring said. However, an “elimination diet” that avoids processed foods, alcohol, and caffeine was linked to a beneficial gut bacteria shift. (Study Finds)
