The world of crypto appears to be a cycle of high highs and low lows. But how do you know if your crypto exchange is about to nosedive? Researchers at the University of Vaasa decided to examine the signs that a platform is about to vanish. Nearly 500 crypto exchanges have failed since 2014, and key signals of eventual failure include higher withdrawal fees, centralized control structures, poor ratings, and offering fewer types of cryptocurrencies. Exchanges with referral programs are more likely to survive. “Next time a friend shares a legitimate crypto exchange referral link, don’t dismiss it as mere bonus hunting,” researcher Niranjan Sapkota said.
