Local authorities in the Turks and Caicos Islands have reported a shark attack: A tourist attempting to take a selfie with the animal lost both hands on Friday, February 7th. The shark had been swimming in the area for 40 minutes before the attack. “It has been determined that the tourist had attempted to engage with the animal from the shallows in an attempt to take photographs,” authorities said. The woman has since returned to Canada for treatment. Shark attacks are normally rare in the region, with about one occurring per year. (NZ Herald)
