Residents of Nordelta, Argentina claim they’re being overrun by capybaras. While these large rodents have gained popularity online, homeowners in Buenos Aires are concerned about their population growth. Marcelo Cantón says the animals are beginning to “fight among themselves” and “fight with dogs in private gardens.” One solution aims to inject a form of birth control into 250 capybaras to help curb reproduction. However, activists like Silvia Soto believe that natural corridors and protected areas should be created for them instead. “For years, we have been asking for different, linked green areas that function as natural reserves,” Soto said.
