On January 26th, a rare deep-sea humpback anglerfish was spotted coming to the surface of the water. This is possibly the first time this animal, which usually lives more than 2,000 feet deep, has been spotted in broad daylight. “It was like a dream come true,” marine wildlife photographer David Jara Boguna said. It’s unclear why the anglerfish decided to surface. Some believe it could have eaten a fish with a gas gland, which caused the anglerfish to float up. While the deep-sea creature died shortly after being spotted, its body has been brought to Tenerife’s Museum of Nature and Archaeology to be studied. (newser)
