A study from Purdue University discovered that scented wax melts could be creating significant indoor pollution. While these melts are alternatives to traditional candles, researchers found that terpenes released by these waxes are “comparable to those emitted by combustion-based scented candles, gas stoves, diesel engines, and natural gas engines.” Researchers noted that the presence of these particles does not mean they’re necessarily harmful. “Indoor air quality is often overlooked in the design and management of the buildings we live and work in, yet it has a direct impact on our health every day,” Dr. Margery E. Hoffman said. (AOL)
