An unnamed 44-year-old man living in the south of France lived a full life complete with a career and family…with only half a brain. The patient reported feeling a mild pain and leg weakness, and doctors were shocked to discover he had a pocket of fluid where his brain was supposed to be. The brain matter itself was pushed against the rim of his skull. As a baby, the man had a build up of fluid in his brain, but the cause was never discovered. Despite his unusual condition, the patient had a fairly normal life. “The brain was very, very much smaller than normal. This case is unique to our knowledge,” Dr. Lionel Feuillet said.
