An optimistic rumor has been circulating around social media: Could Americans receive Department of Government Efficiency checks from the government? Investment manager James Fishback suggested the idea, which has gained internet support since Tuesday. However, so far, there is no plan in place to cut American taxpayers a check based on the money DOGE cuts from other government spending. Congress would need to enact the proposal, and lawmakers may choose to pay down the national debt instead. If Fishback’s proposal is approved, some Americans would receive one $5,000-dollar check in 2026. (Business Insider)
