A woman who traveled to Thailand, Japan, and Hawaii over the course of three-weeks returned with an unwanted souvenir: a brain worm. The parasite caused the 30-year-old to feel like her legs were burning when she returned home. A visit to the doctor discovered she had contracted rat lungworm. Fortunately, she’s now receiving treatment and should be able to leave the hospital in a week. Looking to avoid the brain worm? The CDC recommends not eating raw or undercooked snails, slugs, frogs, shrimp, or prawns. (newser)
