Researchers in China discovered that Mars may have once been home to sandy, vacation-style beaches! Using radar from the Zhurong rover, scientists discovered ancient beach deposits on the red planet. These images point to Mars having coastlines and an ocean about three billion years ago. “We found evidence for wind, waves, no shortage of sand — a proper, vacation-style beach,” Benjamin Cardenas of Penn State said. Researchers ruled out other potential explanations, like lava and sand dunes. “We tend to think about Mars as just a static snapshot of a planet, but it was evolving,” Cardenas added. (Study Finds)
