A Johns Hopkins study revealed that more than half of the American diet consists of ultra-processed foods. The analysis of 34,000 American adults found that ultra-processed foods made up a substantial portion of their diets, even when they made their meals at home. This means fast food is not the only culprit. “The proliferation and ubiquity of ultra-processed foods on grocery store shelves is changing what we are eating when we make meals at home,” Julia Wolfson, Ph.D., said. Ultra-processed foods could contain added sugars, unhealthy fats, and sodium, and are linked to chronic health conditions. (Hindustan Times)
